IYDU Council Meeting - Sydney, Australia
I was delighted to represent Conservative Future at the IYDU Council meeting in Sydney Australia at the beginning of the month. For those that don't know the International Young Democrat Union (IYDU), it is a global alliance of centre-right political youth organisations united by a common desire for greater freedom and less government.
On behalf of the delegation we would like to thank the organisers and hosts, the Australian Young Liberal Party and in particular Alistair Coe who put in a great deal of time and effort into organising a fantastic conference. It was a brilliant week meeting young centre-right youth parties from around the world, sharing best practice ideas. It makes you very humble meeting fellow centre-right politicians that have struggled in their own countries championing democracy. Discussions during the week makes us ask a) how can Conservative Future help new centre-right parties in the future promote freedom and liberty and b) how we can increase our bi-lateral relationships with fellow centre-right parties around the world.
I would like to extend our congratulations to the New Chairman of the IYDU Nicolas Figari Vial from Chile, the first Southern American to hold the post. It is good to see that this year the organisation will continue to promote freedom and liberty across the world. The UK has very strong representation on the Board this year having both the General Secretary James Marriott and myself as a Vice Chairman of the organisation. We look forward to working together to create an international organisation over the next year representing Conservative Future and the UK even more on the IYDU Board.
