Deputy Chairman returns after successful charity expedition to India

Wednesday, 9 January, 2013

From 27th September to 23rd December 2012 I have been away in India with the UK based charity Raleigh to undertake a 12 week community project. Some 65 participants took part in the International Citizen Service Expedition supported by a volunteer manager team of 12.

During the Community Development project my team were involved in several education and training programs. In addition we constructed twelve Cattle Sheds, Vemi-Composit and Azola units and Eight Echo Sanitation toilets. These new buildings will provide much needed shelter for live stock and in turn reduce animal human conflict levels.

We were also thrilled to have supported the running of a successful Health camp which provided much needed medical support to 300 people. At the conclusion of the project we also ran a successful Veterinary camp where we treated 70 live stock.

Community life was both tough and rewarding. I was grateful for the opportunity to lead a culturally diverse team and become resourceful through embracing challenges.

I could not recommend this organisation enough to Conservative Future members who are interested in developing their leadership skills and supporting communities in need. You can visit their website at or send me an email at for further details.
