CF National and Regional Campaigning in Nottingham

Wednesday, 25 January, 2012

On the 21st January, a cold and blustery Saturday morning, around twenty Conservative activists visited the beautiful village of Toton, Broxtowe near the Nottinghamshire-Derbyshire border in order to take part in the first Conservative Future National and East Midlands Regional campaign day of the year. The task was to canvas Toton, a part of the ‘Chilwell and Toton’ ward in Broxtowe, ahead of an important County Council by-election which is expected for the end of March following the sad death of Conservative Councillor Tom Pettengell.

In spite of the weather, members who had travelled to Nottinghamshire from across the country, showed great enthusiasm as they made their way around the village. Walking from street-to-street in the hilly environment soon warmed everyone up – but the positive reception by the people of Toton certainly helped too. Afterwards there was a chance for a quick drink, and a chat with local MP Anna Soubry, in the Manor Bar Restaurant before the National Executive and Regional Chairmen travelled across to central Nottingham for this year’s first meeting of the Regional College.

Ben Howlett, National Chairman said, "it is vital that the Regional College and National Executive are out fighting key by-elections while we are holding meetings around the UK. It was so good to hear local people's concerns about the local community and also realise that the majority have no trust in Labour's economic message. We will continue to hold meetings around the UK and involve everyone in the work that the National Executive do."

East Midlands CF Regional Chairman James Poland added “It was great to welcome the National Exec and Regional College to Nottingham on Saturday. With so many CF’ers out knocking on doors, speaking with residents and listening to their concerns, it was a great example of how Conservative Future can, and does, make a real difference in election campaigns.”

Luc Chignell, the Area Chairman for Nottinghamshire commented “It was fantastic to see so many people, from both CF and the local Association, canvassing together in such a lovely village. We are hoping to hold another Action Day in the future once the date of the by-election is confirmed.”
