Social Action @ Conference
Since 2006 a Social Action project has taken place at every Conservative Party Conference. To make this year’s project accessible to more Party delegates, we have created a Social Action Zone within the main Conference area (Stands 141-150). We would like to take this opportunity to draw your attention to three aspects of the project which I hope you can get involved in.
1. Record a short story for the visually impaired In Partnership with Calibre Audio Library, a charity who provides audio books for the visually impaired, we are inviting delegates to spend 15 minutes recording a short story in one of our audio booths. These short stories will then in turn be distributed for the use of members of Calibre Audio Library.
2. Donate some items of clothing for our Oxfam appeal – just packing one extra T-shirt could make the difference! Oxfam are one of the leading charities working to help the victims of the famine in East Africa. More than 12 million people in East Africa are facing desperate food shortages following the worst drought in 60 years. And with poor rainfall predicted the crisis could last well into 2012. At this year’s Party Conference we are partnering with Oxfam to collect unwanted clothing, and are asking delegates to bring an extra one or more items with them to donate to this appeal.
3. Sign up to Social Action at the Social Action Wall (don’t forget your camera...) and you will get a free copy of our new Social Action Manual, which we are launching at Conference, and a Social Action lapel pin so you can act as a walking advertisement for Social Action for the duration of Conference!
If you have any questions regarding either of the Social Action projects please contact james.anderson@conservatives.com
BackBoris2012 @ Conference
Ahead of next year’s Mayoral and GLA elections, the BackBoris2012 campaign will have a strong presence at conference, including a stand (Nos 138-139 and 152-153).
The stand will include a shop selling BackBoris merchandise, a sign up area for activists from around the country to get involved in the campaign, a vox pop booth for people to record a video saying why they’re backing Boris and a call centre.
To ensure that everyone at conference is aware of the campaign’s key messages, and the importance of next year’s elections to both London and the Party, BackBoris2012 is looking for a crack team of activists to help out.
If you fancy being part of this high-profile campaign and have an hour or perhaps even a morning of your time to spare, it would be great to hear from you. To get involved, or for further information, please contact Guy Robinson (grobinson@backboris2012.com) or Hicham Felter (hfelter@backboris2012.com).
Further details of the campaign’s conference activities can be found at: http://www.backboris2012.com/conference.
