The Coalition Government is giving people the chance to set up ‘Free Schools’ – independent schools within the state sector. They can be set up by teachers, parents, charities, universities or businesses.
Free Schools are free from local and national bureaucratic control. The first 24 Free Schools opened in September 2011.
Free Schools have:
- The ability to set pay and conditions for staff
- Freedom from the National Curriculum
- Greater control of budgets
- More opportunities to work with other public and private organisations
- Freedom to change the length of terms and school days
- Freedom from local authority control
- And they can employ teachers who do not have Qualified Teacher Status, in the same way as independent schools
Support our campaign: #IwanttogotoaFreeSchool
With all the positive opportunities that will be gained from Free Schools, Conservative Future is calling upon all those students and pupils who support Free Schools to start spreading the message to friends and fellow students.
Let's get the message out there: use #IwanttogotoaFreeSchool when on Twitter.
Other ways to promote Free Schools will be on this page soon.
