I think it’s great there will be some Conservative candidates in this year’s NUS elections. I was involved with my Students’ Association in Aberdeen until recently. It is filled with socialists and Labour members who claim to fight for equality and justice whilst marginalising those who disagree with them and refusing to listen to opposing arguments.

Albeit that trades unions and student unions are a fundamentally left wing concept, it is horrendous that the left have hijacked ideas of justice and liberty and twisted them to their own perverse meanings. If all students are automatically members of their associations, then they should have more Conservatives running for office to make change for the better.

I have personally opted out of my Students’ Association because of strong ideological disputes and a severe opposition to its atrocious attitude and policies on freedom of speech, assembly and debate. I would much rather see NUS abolished, but then I’m not a friend of the union movement.

What a great speech from Her Majesty. I agree with everything she said, and I’m very impressed with the depth of her knowledge into modern telecommunications
Too many people underestimate the Queen, thinking she is merely a mouthpiece, but speeches like this go some way to showing what a wise and interested person she really is.

thats mad thats the pount in haveing the vote if y dont use it it jsut the whay we thinck in thises times they are more intersed in voting in tv shows. it mad why not macke it the lowr to vote that way there wont be this problem. so here is what i thinck if u dont vote they you have no say how the govment is run. but students have the most to gewt out of voteing as they can chage things (altho the mideil- aged have a much biger percent of the voting power) and that wont chage as the poplashen is geting older .

but as i sade it not a right to vote it a need ???

Thanks for the support guys, definitly push your members to run in SU elections and think about running with us for Block at the NUS. The Student Movement locally and nationally has fantastic potential, but we need to get a truly representative spread in its leadership.

This is great news, the NUS is hidiously left-wing and has a long association with being led by Labour party members causing a conflict of interest. Given it is representing all students, of all political persuasions it should be much more neutral, or at least less biased in the one direction. Just look at the number of universities voting to disaffiliate recently – and the anti-free speech, extremely threatening letter which was sent from two NUS officers to Durham students’ union last term. Urgent reform is needed. Good luck to Kit!
