Gregory Rodwell, the current Area Chairmen for West Yorkshire will be stepping down on 31st July as he prepares for his year abroad in Canada. I express my thanks and appreciation to Gregory for his hard work and determination to improve CF in the area; he will be missed by the entire team.

If you believe you have what it takes to develop CF in West Yorkshire and are an active team player I encourage you to drop in an application form for this unique opportunity.

The Area Chairman for West will be expected to work closely with CF Branches and develop there potential. The new Area Chairman will also be expected to work on setting up new branches across West Yorkshire working closely with me in my capacity as the Regional Chairman for Yorkshire and Humber.

The closing date for applications is Wednesday 30th June at 6.00pm.

Thought the General Election in Yorkshire was over? Think again!

Join members of the CF team this Sunday in Thirsk, as we campaign to re-elect Anne Mcintosh for the new seat of Thirsk and Malton.

The poll was delayed in this seat due to the unfortunate sudden death of the UKIP candidate, John Boakes

Campaigning in Wentworth and Dearne

Last week, various activists including the National Executive’s own Chris Hampsheir and Michelle Donelan led a team to Wentworth and Dearne to campaign on behalf of Michelle, who is the only National Executive member fighting for a Parliamentary seat at the upcoming General Election.

The weekend was devised around the target local council seats and we started off early in the morning, with various members of the small and steadfast local association, who were absolutely fantastic in putting us up. A special thanks to the Chairman of the Association who now owns William Hague’s old house, which several of the activists stayed in over the weekend!

We managed to deliver over 6,000 leaflets in the widely spread out Wentworth and Dearne constituency between about 8 of us, on behalf of both Michelle and the local candidates for the upcoming council elections. The local Association were impressed with the distances we had travelled, the dedication shown by local residents who came to help and the stunning literature designed and written by Michelle and her Campaign Director.

With a couple of great lunch spreads and a fantastic dinner at the local Rockingham Arms pub provided, the weekend was a roaring success. The residents of Wentworth and Dearne are clearly ready for change and I urge all those interested – it’s time to get involved!

Support Help for Heroes

Carl Walters is the Chairman of York St John University CF. He is raising money for Help for Heroes:

Before I came to study in York I served in the RAF Regiment, and completed a 6 month tour of duty in Afghanistan. Whilst I was there I lost many good friends, and I saw with my own eyes the effects that the injuries sustained had on people.

My colleague SAC Gill, who is currently serving in Afghanistan, and I have decided to raise some money for HELP FOR HEROES, which has changed the lives of many who have been injured.

We are walking 80 miles, over the ten highest peaks in Yorkshire, in four days. Our target is £1,000. These injured troops desperatly need our money, recieving very little funds or compensation, to help re-build shattered lives. Examples of what HELP FOR HEROES does can be found here.

I am asking you all to please dig deep, and sponsor us on our trek. Every little really does help.

Yorkshire CF Executive hold meeting in Leeds

What makes you a Conservative?

Even though I am new to the world of politics and have only been a Conservative voter for a few years I realise the importance of a decentralised strong state, the idea of social responsibility, freedom and the protection of rural communities. It is time to put an end to the failed “Labour Project” and have hope and faith in the Conservative Party to bring about real change.

What are you currently working on?

I am currently liasing with a number of Prospective Parliamentary Candidates in Yorkshire & Humber and gearing up for the impending general election. Furthermore I am sharing my exploratory PhD research with key internal stakeholders in the Conservative Party ranging from MEPs, MPs, Councillors and Conservative Future members.

Who is your political hero?

Ok, even though I am new to the political world I would have to say Benjamin Disraeli. Disraeli was a key figure in the creation of the modern Conservative Party, supporter of a strong soverign state and the idea of social responsibility.

When do you think the next General Election will be?

June 2010 – Brown will be holding onto power until the very end.

Why should people get involved with organisations like Conservative Future?

We need change in this country. Change can only come about with people taking stock and standing up against this failed Labour government. Every member of Conservative Future has the power to bring about this change; whether it be canvasing, donating, making telephone calls, or chatting to friends and family about a bright, prosperous future. This is the future under a Conservative government – so come on current/potential Conservative Future members – we are all in this together!

I am writing to you as the first and only member of the Conservative Future National Executive to stand as a Parliamentary Candidate whilst still a serving CF member. I am standing in the constituency of Wentworth and Dearne in South Yorkshire, a seat occupied by Gordon Brown’s housing minister, John Healey.

I am determined to give New Labour a good solid run for their money in this seat. The people of Wentworth and Dearne want change and they deserve it and a real choice in this election. Scarily, voters are turning to the BNP in desperation.

I am campaigning to offer change from this dilapidated Labour government – to encourage, enable and empower residents. I want to ensure they all get a fair start and a stake in Wentworth and Dearne’s local communities and economies.

The past few weeks have witnessed plenty of activity across the region as we step up our preparations for the General Election. Two highlights to mention. Our first annual Yorkshire CF drinks reception which was held in central Leeds. The event was a tremendous success with thirty members of Yorkshire CF attending. We also enjoyed hosting three of our distinguished parliamentary candidates; Jason McCartney, Antony Calvert and John Sharp. My special thanks to Antony for attending as our guest speaker. The event was a tremendous success.

Turning to Spring Forum there was a great sense of commitment to a clear vision, a vision for government and for the first time in years, a vision that could be realised in just a few months. What was also striking this year was the vast number of CFers I got chatting with, who were all very engaged and energetic. It was great to see Yorkshire members enjoying the two days talking about recent campaign activity and future plans. We all left Spring Forum energized and ready for the battle ahead. Dominic Trynka Watson for East Riding of Yorkshire and North East Linconshire

On February 20th I led a campaign day to Brigg and Goole which was a tremendous success. My thanks to Philip and other members who supported the days campaign. I have started approaching East Riding Councillors with a view to building a good relationship with the majority Conservative Group and hopefully working with them to improve the image of the Party amongst the young in the area. I would like to extend my thanks to those of you who have e-mailed me offering help, and also my apologies for having not yet put you to work! It is my intention to hold an informal meeting soon to gather your views on what CF should be doing in the area; what you would like (or are willing) to do for CF and of course what you think CF should be doing for you! Chris Southeran for North Yorkshire

On 7th February, we had a joint York Tories/CF Action Day in York Outer, campaigning for Julian Sturdy. We had an extremely positive turnout for such a bitterly cold Sunday afternoon! A big thank you to the York Association office who went out of there way to look after us. We are all focused now on winning the crucial seats required for a national majority in the general election. I am also hoping to investigate the potential for a second CF branch in North Yorkshire. I am aiming to meet the new PPC for Skipton & Ripon, Julian Smith, to discuss the feasibility of constructing a branch there. Gregory Rodwell for West Yorkshire

It’s been an exciting time here in West Yorkshire, with the setting up of two new branches. Emily Bailey has become chairman of Keighley CF and Samuel Fletcher has become chairman of Bradford CF. I wish them luck in their new positions and hope that the branches evolve into dynamic groups which are valued by local conservatives. We are now well into the general election campaign and we will be planning a number of events to help our local candidates. West Yorkshire is one of the key areas for our party in the election and I know that Conservative Future members will play an important role. James Gould for South Yorkshire

It is a sign that we are edging ever closer to the election that February has completely flown by. With this in mind it was great to see Greg Rodwell bring a team down from West Yorkshire to P & S on Saturday the 27th February. Thanks Greg to and Simon, they were a great help and we look forward to returning the favour in West Yorkshire. Looking forward to the next month it will be more of the same, supporting PPC’s, social action and of course the odd social. I wish to congratulate Holly Smith who has been elected as the new Chairman of Sheffield Conservative Future. Holly is a hard worker and dedicated activist; Sheffield is in good hands. First annual Yorkshire CF reception a success

On Saturday 20th I hosted the first annual Yorkshire CF drinks reception in Leeds. The event was a tremendous success with thirty members of Yorkshire CF attending.

We were joined by three prospective parliamentary candidates; Jason McCartney, Antony Calvert and John Sharp. Antony Calvert gave a rousing speech about the upcoming election battle and the hard work that we will be needing to put in to make sure that we wake up to a strong Conservative government on May 7th.

Hamish Stewart, the Regional Chairman for East Midlands CF, also joined members of the Yorkshire team in Leeds. Hamish and I agreed a joint working agreement at the reception which aims to build up closer working relationships between our respective teams and share in best practice ideas.
