A Year for Change on the NUS

From the Blue Blog: Conservative Future are standing for elections to the student body.
By Kit Friend
For a number of years, NUS elections have been contested by open Labour Students, and “Independents” who are often Labour Party Members (or at a push Liberal or Green).
But this year, I’m going to be contesting as an official Conservative candidate. I believe standing for office carries with it a responsibility to be open about affiliations, and that if the NUS claims to be a truly representative body, this should be reflected in the politics …

A busy year for Conservative Future in the North East

From the Blue Blog: I look back at 2009, which saw CF almost triple its number of branches in the North East region.
2009 has been North East Conservative Future’s busiest year to date. We have been involved in media training days, local and European elections, trips to America, social events, debates and the list goes on.
February saw YBF visit us in Newcastle and provide us with some media and campaign training. Training was delivered to activists from Sunderland, Newcastle and Northumbria and other areas of the North East with ages …

Conservative Future is ready to campaign for change

From the Blue Blog: I outline Conservative Future’s important role in the upcoming General Election campaign.
With a general election fast approaching, proving to the public that the Conservative Party is ready to lead must be a top priority for all of us. Against the backdrop of voter apathy and a tired and crumbling Labour Government, voters need to see that we are working hard to deliver the message of change. No Government will ever win an election on a complacent campaign with average effort.
Make no mistake – this battle is …

Supporting a good cause at Christmas

From the Blue Blog: Stephen Hodgson highlights the work Loughborough CF have done to raise money for Help4Heroes.
Loughborough Conservative Future is delighted to announce that we managed to raise almost £200 for national charity Help4Heroes at our popular annual Christmas Dinner on Saturday 12th December 2009.
As keen supporters of the work that Help4Heroes carries out in supporting injured servicemen and women, we were delighted to have raised such a respectable amount for the charity whilst having a great time in the process. “I know that the money raised will make …

Giving support to a good cause at Christmas

From the Blue Blog: I report back on a festive project to help disadvantaged children.
North East Conservative Future have been very busy getting into the Festive spirit by taking part in the Operation Christmas Child Shoebox appeal organised by Samaritans Purse.
This project has been running for nearly twenty years and has delivered millions of shoeboxes to under-privileged children in Europe, Africa and Asia. Children are presented with boxes regardless of their background and faith. The project is very simple. You take a shoebox, wrap it up in Christmas wrapping paper, …

Pushing power down works

From the Blue Blog: I look at how moving responsibility from the centre has improved Conservative Future.
One of the main beliefs of the Conservative Party is that power should be pushed down to the lowest level; in the so-called ‘direct democracy’. I am a big believer of this and have tried to use my Chairmanship of Conservative Future to achieve this wherever possible.
I’ve been National Chairman of Conservative Future now for 18 months and I think my biggest achievement has been the introduction of Regional Chairmen. A typical ‘Region’ is …

Meeting the Youth Parliament of Pakistan

Back in July Michael Rock, the National Chairman of Conservative Future, and I met with a delegation from the Youth Parliament of Pakistan.

They came over to learn about our political system, meeting with various groups and people in British politics.

They write about their visit here:

Getting university students involved in politics

From the Blue Blog: Serene John-Richards looks at how Conservative societies are engaging with university students around the country.
Since my mother is a local councillor, I began campaigning long before university – but while I’d always taken an interest in politics, I must admit the typical cliché of delivering countless leaflets and knocking on endless doors in the cold and rain was a far cry from the colourful debating I imagined politics to be all about!
It was certainly one thing giggling at PMQs and musing over the economics of conservatism …

People in the North want action, not an apology

From the Blue Blog: Emma Carr looks at what the Conservatives must do to keep making progress in the North of England.
I was born at the end of the 1980s and have grown up in different places around the North East and have since become and active campaigner for the Conservatives in the Region.
Having read an article on ConservativeHome entitled ‘Should the Conservative Party be apologising for the policies of the 1980s if it is to make electoral advances in the North of England?’ I knew at once that it …

Where is your local Conservative Future branch?

From the Blue Blog: Richard Jackson looks at some of the ways Google Maps are being used by the Party’s youth wing.
The great strength of Conservative Future is not primarily in the national organisation, but in the CF branches located across the country.
The work that CF branches do is varied and worthwhile. Examples include the Exeter City & East Devon branch that helped clean up local flood damage and the Cities of London & Westminster branch that raised £3,800 selling Remembrance Day poppies. CF branches also all make a huge …
