Conservative candidates will stand in this year’s NUS elections
As most of you will know, students form a significant component of the CF membership and we have activists working with student unions up and down the UK.
This April the National Union of Students have their annual elections, and I’m pleased to announce that for the first time in years there will be Conservative candidates standing in these elections.
We are looking for additional candidates for the ‘block of 15′ that form the part-time component of NUS’s leadership, but are proudly supporting Kit Friend as a candidate for the role of Vice President (Higher Education).
Kit has the benefit, as I do, of having a pun-friendly name and we’ve suggested a few options, including running a facebook campaign to find a slogan, which I understand has been a successful tactic previously…
Helen Roberts, who is helping organise Student Life, will be writing a post soon with more info on these elections; and how you can stand as a Conservative candidate. We’ve got a team here to support you so there’s no excuse if you are keen to be involved with the NUS: it’s Time to Get Involved!

Fantastic news about the forthcoming NUS Elections, it’s about time we started to make some noise from the inside.
I am also proud to say that I am running in Surrey Students’ Union Elections this year – details here http://www.facebook.com/#!/group.php?gid=296913948628&ref=ts and would certainly be interested in finding out more about the above article.
Good Luck Kit!
This is great news, the NUS is hidiously left-wing and has a long association with being led by Labour party members causing a conflict of interest. Given it is representing all students, of all political persuasions it should be much more neutral, or at least less biased in the one direction. Just look at the number of universities voting to disaffiliate recently – and the anti-free speech, extremely threatening letter which was sent from two NUS officers to Durham students’ union last term. Urgent reform is needed. Good luck to Kit!
Thanks for the support guys, definitly push your members to run in SU elections and think about running with us for Block at the NUS. The Student Movement locally and nationally has fantastic potential, but we need to get a truly representative spread in its leadership.
