An update from Yorkshire CF

The first two weeks of 2010 have witnessed two very exciting events take place for members in Yorkshire. On Monday the 4th several members joined me, William Hague and our candidate who is up against Ed Balls, Anthony Calvert to launch our National Poster campaign here in Yorkshire. It was bitterly cold but we kept each others spirits high with discussions on how we each looked forward to the ‘Portillo’ moment for Labour! A goal we will work very hard to deliver for our party on election night.
On Thursday the 14th several members had the honour of meeting Lady Thatcher at a New Years Reception held in London. We all chatted to the former Prime Minister for 15 minutes where we discussed our aspirations for turning Yorkshire blue at the coming election. It was great to see the iron lady in such good spirits and clearly enjoying meeting so many young members of Conservative Future.
We were also able to meet the former Chancellor Lord Lamont who discussed his experience with us of standing in Harrogate and Knaresborough back in 1997. It was interesting to hear how difficult it was for our party back then and how things have vastly changed for the better since.
The next day we were able to tour round a Media organisation which we all found to be an extremely fascinating and rewarding experience. My thanks to Michelle Donelan, the National CF Press and Media Development Officer, for the support she provided. We are looking forward to supporting Michelle with the Media committee which she is spearheading in London with the National Executive.
Finally to top off a tremendous two weeks we have also seen a new branch set up in Keighley led by the new Chairman, Emily Bailey. You can contact her at emily.bailey@yorkshirecf.com There have also been successful campaigns held in Huddersfield, Pudsey and York Outer. More news coming up in our next bulletin at the end of the month.
