London CF knocks 4 change in Loughborough
Last weekend a team of London Conservative Future activists travelled by minibus to Loughborough for a weekend of campaigning with PPC Nicky Morgan. The event, which was in partnership with local activists in the area, saw thousands of new voters canvassed and literature delivered in a top target seat.
We left Millbank at 6pm on Friday evening and after 3 hours of waiting in traffic we arrived at our hotel. After a night of Christmas dinner and dancing we woke up at 7am to get ready for the big day ahead.
During campaigning on Saturday and after discussing key issues and concerns with local residents, the anger at Gordon Brown’s mismanagement of the economy became clear.
We also attended a charity dinner held at a local resident’s restaurant to raise funds for the Help For Heroes charity. The event included a raffle and an auction to help get much needed cash to wounded soldiers.
Loughborough Campaign Manager Amanda O’Brien commented, “In the middle of a deep recession the fact that the current Labour MP is billing the taxpayer to fund his lavish lifestyle is outrageous to say the least.”
“The next election will give voters a chance to sweep away the deadwood and install a new MP with fresh ideas and a solid work ethic to bring real change to Loughborough,” she added.
Andy Reed, the current Labour MP in the area, has infuriated residents by his casual spending of taxpayers’ cash on luxury home items. Mr Reed was outed by the press as having claimed for a satellite Free-view box, three coffee tables plus towels and bathroom expenses. One resident told us, “I’d ask him to throw in the towel but even that seems to have been billed back to the taxpayer.”
This has been our second campaign weekend in the last few months and we have already made plans for three more at the beginning of next year in the top target seats in the UK.
With a general election just around the corner it is vital that we knock on doors and talk to local residents more than ever before, to let the electorate hear our Conservative message for change loud and clear.
