5 min Q&A with…Hayley Smith

3 December 2009 Philip Smith No Comment

Name: Hayley Smith
Role: Vice Chairmen East Riding of Yorkshire Conservative Future

What makes you a Conservative?

Growing up under the New Labour government and seeing our country being ruined like it has made me a Conservative. I am a Conservative because I want what is best for this country and think that this is the party that can get Britain back to being Great again.

What are you currently working on?

I am currently working with Hull Conservative Future to help get the PPC for Brigg and Goole, Andrew Percy, elected in the next General Election by campaigning at weekends and also working to get the new fresher’s at Hull University involved in campaigning and the party in general!

Who is your political hero?

Even though not an original political hero, mine has to be Margaret Thatcher. To stand up for what you know is right for the country, even though it may be unpopular is a trait that I respect greatly and one that is too lacking with most politicians today.

When do you think the next General Election will be?

I think that Gordon Brown will wait till the very end, leaving the General Election until Summer 2010. As we have seen through the many chances they have had before, the party will not push him and we all know he will not stand down willingly.

Why should people get involved with organisations like Conservative Future?

People should get involved with Conservative Future for many reasons. Firstly, that they have an interest in politics and support the party. Secondly, that they want to make a difference and thirdly, that they want to meet new people and have a good time. Conservative Future is where I have made many friends and had some amazing times and I would encourage anyone to get involved.
