An update from Lincolnshire CF

10 November 2009 guest author No Comment

Fraser McFarland, the CF Area Chairman for Lincolnshire, gives an update on CF activity in his area, and gives a preview of where the Area is going in the coming year.

What did CF do in 2008/9?

Branches across the County helped to arrange events from visits from MP’s to Lord to MEP’s. From helping at the Lincolnshire Show to door knocking, Conservative Future has been there.

In Louth Christopher Green has arranged numerous events in the past 12 months and has helped to increase membership of the branch by doing this.

In Grantham, the team of Edward Proctor and Adin Samson have established a small but strong group there with little or no help from the local association but are now up to 10 members.

In Cleethorpes, Jenny Bury and her team have been working with there Parliamentary Candidate in events from dinners to campaigning and come election day they will be out again and helping to send Martin Vickers to Westminster.

In Boston, James Searles has worked in establishing a branch and has campaigned in both the local and European elections for the party.

Lastly in Lincoln we have been working to establish a branch in the city and now have a strong team. In the past 12 months we have had visits from Alan Duncan, Jeremy Hunt and Lord Bates. They also took a number of members on a visit to the House of Commons where they met Stewart Jackson, Keith Vaz, Simon Weston and Harriet Harman.

Last April we had a successful weekend taking members to the Spring Forum in Cheltenham and can I thank Rachel Hubbard and Victoria Ayling in helping with transport during the weekend.

So, the past 12 months for Conservative Future in Lincolnshire have been eventful but the next 12 months will be an exciting time to be a member and hopefully we can make a real impact and make the change we all want and need in Westminster.

New structure

One of the major issues regarding the lack of influence of Conservative Future in Lincolnshire, is the lack of open communication among members and branches.

So, in May it was decided that instead of having 2 vice chairman for Political and Membership we would have 3 vice chairman.

There roles would be one for the North of the County and one for the South, we also created the role of Vice Chairman for Social activity.

Since the change in structure communication has increased in the County. Last June we held our first Curry night in Lincoln and attracted members from across the County.

Lincolnshire Chairman Fraser McFarland
Vice Chairman ‘North Lincolnshire’ Chris Green
Vice Chairman ‘South Lincolnshire’ Paul Jackson
Vice Chairman ‘Social Activity’ Simon Cavalier-Jones
Vice Chairman ‘Political Activity’ Drew Stafford

2009/10

In the next year we hope to work with our Parliamentary Candidates in holding campaign days across the county, from helping Victoria in the North to Karl in the South.

We are also planning visits as a County to Westminster and Brussels.

As a county we are also looking at setting up more branches across the County. This is the best chance in over a decade to recruit new members to the party and must be grasped or risk loosing a generation of political activists.
