BUCA is off to a flying start!

By Simon Iles (BUCA Chairman)

In a city dominated by the Liberal Democrats and Labour for years, the Bristol University Conservative Association is in a difficult position. However, in effectively relaunching the association this year, we achieved decent results at the recent Freshers’ Fair. Signing up over 30 paid members, recruiting a number of existing national members and assembling a 100-strong mailing list, we hopefully will have a solid group of members to create an active social and political calendar over the coming months.

With the General Election coming up, BUCA members will have every reason to get help our local candidates in their campaigns– especially Charlotte Leslie and Nick Yarker in the Bristol North West and Bristol West wards, both of whom joined us at our stall during the two-day fair.

With these two neighbouring constituencies housing the vast majority of Bristol University students, we hope to campaign regularly and help to encourage students to vote more generally.
