Overview by Regional Chairman
Throughout August CF has been supporting campaigns in Leeds North West, Dewsbury and Batley and Spen. There has been no let up in our determination and commitment to support our parliamentary candidates as we edge another month closer to the Election.
Earlier this month we had a great day at the Mirfield Agricultural Show with our Dewsbury candidate, Simon Reevell. Huddersfield CF Chairman Dave Bolt did a great job of supporting Dewsbury Conservatives and rallying CF members out to support the stall handing out leaflets and discussing issues with members of the public. Expect some photos going online soon!
This month we will be focusing our efforts on the Freshers Fair towards the end of September. We need your help! Please contact your Area Chairman Dan, Chris, Andrew or James who will appreciate support at the stalls we will be manning at University’s across the region.
My own focus will be on Huddersfield University where I am returning to study. If you can lend a hand here please contact me at chairman@yorkshirecf.com
I look forward to seeing you at conference next month!
Philip Smith
Regional Chairman
Area Chairman News
Chris Southeran for North Yorkshire
Things have been slowly progressing well in North Yorkshire during August, with many people away on holidays including the Area Chair. However, the Area Chair and Regional Chair had the opportunity to meet with Julian Sturdy, the PPC for York Outer for lunch in order to discuss the campaign strategy for the coming months. As Julian rightly noted, it is all hard work from here as we begin the countdown to the general election. It is hoped that a CF Action Day can occur in York soon.
Events across the county will begin to increase as term begins – and we commence our campaigning by breaking new ground by holding a Freshers’ stall at York St John University on Wednesday 26th September. If you are interested in helping, contact the Area Chair at chris.southeran@yorkshirecf.com
Andrew Barrett for East Riding of Yorkshire and North East Linconshire
This month David Cameron joined police in Hull on a night patrol to view alcohol related crime. He met with newly selected PPCs Victoria Aitken (North Hull), Christine Mackay (East Hull) and Gary Shores (West Hull & Hessle). Congratulations to the three of them. Despite many university students being at their non-term time address, campaigning has still been strong in the target seats of Cleethorpes and Brigg & Goole, we’re really gearing up for the general election now. Contact Andrew at andrew.barrett@yorkshirecf.com
Dan Paterson for West Yorkshire
West Yorkshire CF is in the process of planning the CF effort in the run up to the General Election and look forward to getting many more feet on the ground after Freshers week. That’s all for now, however if you would like to get involved please contact me at dan.paterson@yorkshirecf.com for details about organizations and opportunities in West Yorkshire.
James Gould for South Yorkshire
South Yorkshire CF has had a busy month. I have held an informal meeting with Philip in Sheffield to discuss my plans of pushing forward opportunities for young members in the area. Barnsley CF has been making good progress and a meal took place for the CF branch earlier in the month. Those who attended had a very enjoyable time. I also enjoyed the curry in Leeds last month with my Vice Chairman Paul Nizhinsky attending. If any South Yorkshire CF members are attending conference this year place drop me an email! Am looking forward to getting together with members from across the Yorkshire team. You can contact James at james.gould@yorkshirecf.com
Chris Wales Graduate Officer
Chris and his team are still working hard on preparing for the launch of the graduate CF network next month, which will encompass networking events, opportunities to talk with senior politicians and help with contributing to and getting ahead in the Party. If you’re under 35, out of full-time education and would like to be involved, please e-mail Chris at chris.wales@yorkshirecf.com
New Wakefield CF Branch!
Wakefield have now set up a CF branch which is operated by Chairman Anthony Bracewell. Anthony is looking at recruiting new members to his team and would like to hear from you if you are interested in getting more involved in the Branch activities. Wakefield Branch will be working closely with Wakefield and Morley and Outwood areas. You can contact Anthony on face book or email chairman@yorkshirecf.com for further contact details.
New East Yorkshire Vice Chair!
Congratulations to Hayley Smith who has been appointed by Andrew Barrett to support him as Vice Chairman for East Yorkshire. Hayley will be working closely with Andrew in improving opportunities available to young Conservatives in the area. You can contact Hayley at hayley.smith@yorkshirecf.com
