Welcome to the seventh edition of Conservative Future news in Yorkshire and Humber.
Overview by Regional Chairman
An important meeting took place this month at CCHQ (see news section below) in which members of the Yorkshire Executive met with professional party workers and our counterparts to discuss how we can continue improving the opportunities available to our young members. I found the meeting extremely productive where ‘best practice’ ideas were shared throughout the afternoon. I would like to bring a similar event to Yorkshire and Humber which will allow members across the region to get together and share training and social opportunities. Graduate Officer, Chris Wales is looking into ideas and we welcome your suggestions.
Also this month the Regional Action day took place in Morley and Outwood where we supported our dedicated parliamentary candidate Antony Calvert. I was able to witness firsthand the work Antony and his team are putting in to ensure local residents are provided with a strong Conservative alternative that will work hard representing them in parliament. I believe the residents of Morley and Outwood will not look too kindly on the parachuted in attempt of Ed Balls who is standing for the seat. Unlike Mr Balls, Antony has been a local councilor and has very strong local links in the area. Having now met Antony I strongly believe that he will make a fantastic Member of Parliament. CF will be doing our bit to support his efforts to take the seat from Labour.
Next month Yorkshire CF will be holding a curry in Leeds for members to get together. Please drop me an email at the usual place, chairman@yorkshirecf.com if you would like to join us.

Area Chairman News
Chris Southeran for North Yorkshire
At the beginning of the month, the Area Chair and the Regional Chair paid a visit to the new campaign offices in Tadcaster. It was a good opportunity to discuss plans for campaigns across the region with Louise Parry, who kindly gave us a tour around the offices!
The Area Chair is investigating potential new CF membership across North Yorkshire, with progress being made in Selby, Harrogate & Knaresborough and within York itself. It is hoped that the new members could join us in campaigning and canvassing as well as attending future Action Days. More details on the outcome of the meeting with the representatives from these areas will hopefully be included in next month’s report.
Email Chris at chris.southeran@yorkshirecf.com
Andrew Barrett for East Riding of Yorkshire and North East Linconshire
This month we’ve been canvassing in Brigg & Goole where the results have been excellent. We have also continued our leafleting campaign and upping the game as the general election approaches. All branches look forward to receiving their fresher’s packs and recruiting new members. Contact Andrew at andrew.barrett@yorkshirecf.com
Dan Paterson for West Yorkshire
This month has seen some real progress in our area and it is with great pleasure that we welcome David Bolt as new Chairman of Huddersfield Conservative Future and Matthew Wharton continues making fantastic progress as Interim Chairman of Leeds Conservative Future. David has been building his executive and setting the society up for freshers fayre and Matthew has put on two fantastic social events, the first was at the Hyde Park curry house and the second one at La Tasca in Leeds. Both events saw stunning turnouts and a big thankyou goes to Matthew and his team for setting them up, everyone had a great time.
West Yorkshire CF is happy to be able to announce that plans for our Christmas party are well underway and Patrick Mercer MP, has generously agreed to attend as special guest speaker. Tickets will be £5.00 with a drink on the door, the date for your diary is Friday 4th December, and further details will be announced nearer the time. In terms of campaigning, Leeds CF are now also working in Leeds North East and Elmet and Rothwell, where we are looking to take two more Parliamentary seats from Labour. We have also started an internship scheme with local PPCs, so if you would like to get involved please email West Yorkshire Vice Chairman Nina Rosen at nina.rosen@leedsconservatives.com
That’s all for now, however if you would like to get involved please contact me at dan.paterson@yorkshirecf.com for details about organisations and opportunities in West Yorkshire.
James Gould for South Yorkshire
July has been a quiet month for CF in South Yorkshire. With most of our membership dispersed across the country for the summer holidays, our campaigning ability has been reduced. The general drop in the political tempo and the rest that it provides has however come as a welcome period of relief in a political calendar that is about to become very busy. We have not been idle however and continue to work to strengthen our branches in order to secure the gains we have already made this year and prepare for the big push ahead. I had the pleasure of attending a CF Team gathering with Philip where we discussed the progress that we would like to see in South Yorkshire. You can contact James at james.gould@yorkshirecf.com
Chris Wales Graduate Officer
The fledgling graduate team has been working hard on developing a structure to bring in more graduates and under-30s in to the Party. An inaugural event with William Hague is being organised and the team are preparing to contact all under-30s Party members across Yorkshire to get their views on the future of the Conservative Party. If you’d like to be involved or kept informed, please contact Chris Wales at chris.wales@yorkshirecf.com
CCHQ Briefing Day a big success!
The National Executive invited members of the national organisation, including Area Chairmen and Regional Chairmen, down to CCHQ on Saturday 11th July in London for a General Election briefing day. This event had several purposes: to pass ‘best practice’ between members, to prepare for the upcoming General Election campaign, and as a networking opportunity for the attendees.
We had a busy day packing several sessions into the day. These included a video message from Eric Pickles, a talk from Justine Greening, a media briefing and a ‘best practice’ discussion session. In the evening following the event we held a summer party near Trafalgar Sq with CF members from across the country joining us.
Norwich By-Election Victory!

Regional Chairman Philip visited Norwich on 21st July with Vice Chairman (Membership) for South Yorkshire Paul Nizhinsky. There was a good atmosphere throughout the day and we got to meet voters on the doorstep putting forward their strong desire to see change take place with the election of our candidate Chloe Smith. Our congratulations and best wishes to Chloe as she takes up her new role! Chloe is a dedicated CF member and it is fantastic to see one of our own elected to parliament. We wish her well.
South Yorkshire CF Team Meeting
On Tuesday 28th a meeting of the South Yorkshire team was held in Barnsley where we discussed the latest developments and where we wanted to see CF progress in the area. My thanks to parliamentary candidates Spencer Pitfield and Lynda Donaldson for attending and providing their input into the discussions.
If you are a young member in South Yorkshire please get in contact with Area Chairman James Gould at jame.gould@yorkshirecf.com There are several ways you can support CF and we will make sure you are looked after from day one!
