Name: Andrew Mitchell MP
Role: Shadow Secretary of State for International Development

What are you currently working on?

The International Development Green Paper

Who is your political hero?

William Pitt. The man who was obsessed with reducing the National Debt and introduced balanced budgets and income tax (at a rate of 10%) was a man for his time and ours.

When do you think the next General Election will be?

As late as Gordon Brown can get away with calling it – but it should be now: the country is crying out for change.

Why should people get involved with organisations like Conservative Future?

Too many people used to look at the Tory Party and see a bunch of grey-haired men and elderly activists. Now, it’s very clear that future generations are turning to the Conservatives to deliver the sort of change they’d like to see – big global challenges like climate change or my own brief of international development – so it’s really important to have a strong team of young, enthusiastic activists to help win them over.

Pick one thing about the last 12 years of the Labour government that you would change?

The development of the Labour “spin-lie machine”
