National Executive reshuffle

20 March 2009 Michael Rock 6 Comments

Today, I announce a reshuffle in the Conservative Future National Executive. Following Owen Meredith stepping down, and Anastasia Beaumont-Bott moving on the from the social action liaison role, we are swapping round some of the roles the National Executive will fulfill.

Patrick Sullivan will solely focus on the Student Life aspect of CF and oversee the Freshers’ Campaign, Adele Douglas will continue to promote the Social Action agenda with particular focus on the Manchester Conference, and Steve Ricketts will continue with his work with Councillors. Christian and I have some political campaigns in the pipeline and alongside those, Christian will maintain the International and Working Life briefs.

This also sees the second of our co-options being used; we are today bringing Edward Hallam on to takeover the role of national campaigning and campaigns. Edward has proven himself to be a successful CF operator, running the Cities of London & Westminster branch, as well as TheYoungConservative blog. Edward will work with the Regional Chairman and Area Chairman to boost our campaigning effectiveness in the run up to the European elections (Campaign 09), and beyond.

This means the makeup, and roles, of the National Executive will be:

Michael Rock (Chairman)

Christian May (Deputy Chairman) – International Relations, Working Life, Political Campaigns

Adele Douglas – Social Action, Northern Board, Campaign North Liaison

Edward Hallam – National Campaigning and Campaigns

Richard Jackson – Media & Internal Relations, New Media

Steve Ricketts – Conservative Councillors

Patrick Sullivan – Student Life, Freshers Campaign

Good luck to the New Team.

Seems fair enough, why the demotion for Sullivan?

This reshuffle has been done to spread out the roles across the Exec. Both the ‘Student Life’ roles and ‘National Campaigning and Campaigns’ are big roles so they have been split between two people.

Patrick also has to look after the Freshers Campaign which is also a big job!

I can certainly vouch for the fact that the Student Development (Freshers) portfolio is a big role to take on!!

‘Tis a shame. I am led to believe there was a time when the youth wing of the Conservative Party was reputable, or as reputable as youth-wing’s of political parties can be.
What kind of organisation is it now though?!
We had elections for the NME. Good. Months later, two of them have resigned, we have a Chairman just going trigger happy with power, and now there is someone on the NME who isn’t elected!
Considering we urge Mr. Brown to call an election so the people can decide who they want in power… Should we not do that same in CF?!
The organisation is looking more crooked, tired and centralised and with a Chairman who just appoints mates we should be allowed one.
The whole thing would be laughable looking in on it.

    I agree with ‘A Tired CF-er’.

How can we have an Exec with almost 50% of the members not voted for?

Who are the Regional Directors? Thought that was the future – slimming down the Exec??
