Overview by Regional Chairman Philip Smith

Hello supporter. I hope you are having an enjoyable month! February has seen the social and campaign events across Yorkshire and Humber step up a gear both at a branch and regional level.

The main social event for Yorkshire CF this month took place in Scarborough on Friday 13th where Ann Widdecombe gave a speech about the challenges which we must tackle head on if we are to ensure that Conservative victory at the next General Election. I would like to thank Andrew Barrett and the other CF members who accompanied me to this event.

On Saturday 21st Penistone and Stockbridge constituency hosted Yorkshire and Humber CF second official action day of the year. The day was a great success and I’d like to thank all those who gave up there time to attend and to our parliamentary candidate Spencer Pitfield and his team for looking after us all so well. It is very important that CF members are well looked after when giving up time to support our parliamentary candidates. My thanks go out to all our candidates across Yorkshire that go that extra mile to ensure that supporters are giving that x factor treatment!

David Cameron has set out clearly his vision to see Conservatives MP’s elected that represent all walks of life in the UK. Helping to elect Spencer in Penistone and Stockbridge is very important if we are to regain a foot hold in all the regions across Yorkshire. It will also show that Labour cannot any longer take its ‘bed rock’ seats in South Yorkshire for granted. Only electing Conservative MPs will provide the change which people are crying out for.

Looking towards next month there will be plenty of opportunities for CF members to get involved both on a social and campaign level. I hope to see more of you out and about very soon!  As ever you can let me know your views by emailing me directly at chairman@yorkshirecf.com

Area Chairman News

Andrew Barrett for East Riding of Yorkshire and North East Linconshire

We’ve had CF out most weekends leafleting in various constituencies, mainly Brigg & Goole and Cleethorpes as these are these are key seats for the region. Last weekend we had people out in Brigg & Goole on both Saturday and Sunday, as well as members campaigning in Cleethorpes on the Saturday, we’ve put an awful lot of leaflets out. By the time you have read this there will have been a big campaign day in Brigg and Goole, with a large expected turnout.

Anna Appleton for North Yorkshire

In North Yorkshire this month we’ve been campaigning in Harrogate and Knaresborough in the by election for the ward Bilton. Unfortunately the Lib Dems won with a majority of just over 200. We’ve also been out campaigning with Julian Sturdy, the PPC for York Outer a couple of times and had great turnouts. The Tory society at York Uni have organised a debate with the candidates for York Outer from the Lib Dems, Labour and the Conservatives which will be taking place on Thursday the 5th of March. Everybody is welcome to come along!

James Gould for South Yorkshire

The past few months have been an exciting time for the CF in South Yorkshire. It has been a period of activity unparalleled in years, with movements to found branches in Barnsley and Doncaster and also the planned restructuring of the CF in Sheffield. Once these plans are realised, CF in South Yorkshire will possess a structure and campaigning ability that will be the envy of CF areas across the country.  The CF in Sheffield deserves particular congratulations for its activities during this period. Their turn out it the recent fantastically successful Yorkshire campaign day in Stocksbridge and Pennistone set a bench mark not only for themselves but for the whole Yorkshire area. South Yorkshire would also like to take this opportunity to thank all those from outside South Yorkshire who came to help in S&P.  Your help was very much appreciated.

On Tuesday 3rd March Sheffield University CF will hold their AGM so let us take this opportunity to thank the chairman Benedict Hazel and all of the Sheffield committee for their stellar performance over the last year. We look forward to welcoming the new committee. This is an exciting time for CF in South Yorkshire. We have already made great strides forward and I truly believe that if we continue on this course, we can awaken a sleeping giant.
