5 minute Q&A with…Matthew Elliott
Name: Matthew Elliott
Role: Chief Executive of the Taxpayers’ Alliance
What are you currently working on?
My latest book is being published by Random House on 5th March – it’s called ‘The Great European Rip-Off”. We’re currently working on the media plan and the book launch. It’ll be a hectic few weeks.
Who is your political hero?
Grover Norquist, President of Americans for Tax Reform, who does such great work on behalf of taxpayers in the US.
When do you think the next General Election will be?
At the last possible moment – May 2010.
Why should people get involved with organisations like Conservative Future?
It’s a great way to get involved in politics. When people first become interested in politics, they probably don’t realise how many different roles they can choose from – MP, MEP, Councillor, think-tanker, CCHQ staffer, researcher, counstituency agent etc. There’s something for every skill set and CF helps people take their first step in a facinating career.
Pick one thing about the last 12 years of the Labour government that you would change?
The incredible increase in public spending, waste and debt.
